EGR Removal & Price
In most modern diesel engines, in order to remove or blank off the EGR, the software on the Engine Control Unit (ECU) needs to be modified to delete the EGR function, the related fault codes and limp mode / safe mode. We can delete the EGR function from the software on the ECU on most models starting from R999.00.
We can also blank off or completely remove EGR and EGR cooler systems on some models starting from R1725.
What is EGR? (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
The function of an EGR is to recirculate a certain amount of exhaust gasses back into the cylinders. This is a technique used to reduce NOx to comply with emission laws. Mixtures of atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen at high temperatures in the combustion process produces NOx or nitrogen oxides. When a part of the exhaust gas is introduced into the cylinders, NOx levels reduces significantly.
The disadvantages of an EGR system in diesel engines.
Particulate matter or soot enters the cylinders and cause additional wear to the piston rings and the cylinder walls and will mix with the engine oil.
Combustion efficiency is reduced and may cause increased fuel consumption as well as a slight decrease in power on certain loads and RPM.
Because of the inert gas introduced, less fuel is combusted during the combustion cycle and causes higher soot levels or carbon particulates that will eventually clog up the intake.
